The railway station sits about 2 km from the town centre and is one of the busier stops on the main Chennai–Kanyakumari trunk line, with regular services to Chennai, Madurai, and Thiruvananthapuram. The colonial-era station building has been added to over the years but still keeps the basic plan of an early twentieth-century South Indian Railway stop.
For visitors, it's mostly a practical waypoint — there is a small platform shop and the inevitable kadalai mittai vendors. If you have time between connections, walk back into town for tiffin at one of the bus stand hotels.
