Vedapureeswarar Temple is a Shiva temple in central Pondicherry with a history tied to the town's colonial period. The original temple was destroyed by French forces in 1748 and later rebuilt by Dewan Kandappa Mudaliar with public contributions.
It is an active place of worship rather than a museum, so visits are best kept quiet and respectful. The temple works well as a short stop while walking between Pondicherry's older Tamil streets and the French Quarter.
