Trichy's Government Museum is small, old-fashioned, and useful for filling gaps between temple visits. Its collections include sculpture, coins, bronzes, natural history specimens, and local archaeological material.
Do not expect slick presentation. The value is in seeing regional objects close to the places that produced them, especially if you are moving on to Thanjavur, Srirangam, or the Kaveri delta.
