Khem Singh Mohan Singh is the classic stop for Almora sweets. The thing to buy is bal mithai: a dense, brown milk sweet rolled in tiny sugar balls, rich enough that a small box goes a long way.
Also try singauri, another Kumaoni milk sweet wrapped in a malu leaf. Neither is subtle, but both are part of the town's identity.
