A small temple on a ridge about half a kilometre southeast of the main Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Bhairavnath — a fierce manifestation of Shiva said to guard the shrine during the winter months when the main temple is closed. The walk up is short but steep.
The view back over the Kedarnath complex and across the Mandakini valley from the ridge is one of the best in the area. Many pilgrims pay respects here before entering the main shrine.
