The house where Sir Syed Ahmad Khan — founder of Aligarh Muslim University and one of the key Muslim reformers of 19th-century India — lived and worked is preserved as a small museum on the AMU campus. The rooms contain period furniture, personal correspondence, photographs and documents relating to both Sir Syed's life and the founding of the university.
The museum is modest and the displays are not always well explained in English, but for anyone interested in the history of the Indian Muslim reform movement or the lead-up to partition, it is worth an hour. The house itself is a handsome colonial bungalow with a garden, sitting in the quieter residential section of campus.
