Imamzadeh Jafar

Seljuk-era shrine and one of Borujerd's most graceful old religious buildings.

Imamzadeh Jafar is a small but important shrine on the eastern side of Borujerd's old centre. The mausoleum is usually dated to the Seljuk period and is dedicated to Abulqasim Jafar ibn al-Husayn, a descendant of the fourth Shia imam.

The appeal is in the shape of the building: compact, vertical, and more elegant than its modest scale suggests. It is a good reminder that Borujerd's importance is not limited to one mosque or one era.
