Borujerd's Jameh Mosque is the city's strongest historic anchor. Its present fabric has been repaired and rebuilt many times, but the mosque's roots reach back to the 10th century, and local tradition places it on an even older fire-temple site.
The building is worth seeing for its age more than for perfect preservation. Brick vaults, tilework, and later additions sit together in the plain way old Iranian provincial mosques often do: less staged than the famous mosques of Isfahan, but closer to everyday religious life.
