Underground City of Ouyi

Subterranean defensive city at Nushabad, a short excursion from Kashan.

The Underground City of Ouyi lies beneath Nushabad near Kashan, with tunnels and chambers designed for refuge and defense. Its cool, narrow spaces give a vivid sense of how communities adapted to threat and climate on the edge of the desert.

It is close enough to Kashan to combine with Noushabad or other desert-edge sights. Claustrophobic visitors should consider the confined passages before entering, but history-focused travellers will find it one of the area's more unusual excursions.
