Gar Arjeneh Rock Shelter

Prehistoric rock-shelter site near Khorramabad, part of Lorestan's deep cave landscape.

Gar Arjeneh Rock Shelter belongs to the cluster of caves and shelters that make the Khorramabad valley unusually important for prehistory. The immediate site is modest to the eye, but its setting helps explain why people used this landscape for so long: water, limestone, shelter, and routes through the Zagros.

Go with realistic expectations. This is not a heavily interpreted archaeological park, and independent visitors should check local access before setting out. It is most worthwhile for travellers already interested in Lorestan's older sites, especially if paired with Kaldar Cave, Yafteh Cave, or Falak-ol-Aflak Castle.
