The Dar ul-Ihsan Mosque, also known as the Jameh Mosque of Sanandaj, is the city's main Friday mosque and the oldest surviving mosque in the city centre. Built in the Qajar era on the site of an earlier structure, it has a single minaret and a courtyard layout typical of Iranian mosque architecture, adapted to the scale and means of a provincial Kurdish capital rather than an imperial centre.
The mosque remains active and hosts the main Friday prayers that draw worshippers from across the city. Visiting outside prayer times is generally possible; the courtyard is quiet during the week and provides a useful contrast to the older decorated interior of the Khosro Abad Mansion nearby.
The surrounding old bazaar quarter — compressed lanes of shops selling spices, dried fruits, and metalwork — extends from the mosque's vicinity and is worth walking through in the morning when the market is active.
