The Khosro Abad Mansion is the most impressive historical building in Sanandaj, dating to the Zand and early Qajar periods (18thβ19th century). Built by the Kurdish governors of Senna as a residence and seat of regional power, it combines the formal elements of Persian palace architecture β iwan porticos, decorative tile work, mirrored reception rooms β with local Kurdish sensibilities.
The mansion now functions as a museum and cultural centre. The interior decorations include carved plasterwork, mirror mosaic ceilings, and painted panels depicting hunting scenes and court life. The gardens, though not extensive, are well maintained and provide a pleasant contrast to the surrounding city streets.
This is Sanandaj's most visited historical monument and the logical starting point for understanding the city's role as a seat of Kurdish regional governance under successive Iranian dynasties.
