Janco Dada Museum

The Janco Dada Museum is dedicated to Marcel Janco, the Romanian-born artist who founded Ein Hod after the 1948 war and went on to shape the village into Israel's first and most enduring artists' community. The collection covers his entire career — from the provocative collages and manifestos of the Zurich Dada years to the bold expressionist canvases he produced in Israel over five decades. The museum also hosts rotating exhibitions by contemporary Israeli artists.

The building itself, a renovated stone house typical of the village's original Arab architecture, is worth noting. The curators have been thoughtful about context: displays explain the Dada movement's origins in wartime Zurich and trace how Janco's politics and aesthetics evolved through his years in Israel. Plan on an hour here before letting the village pull you onward.

A story
Marcel Janco, one of the founders of the Dada movement in Zurich in 1916, fled Romania and established Ein Hod in 1953 — deliberately settling artists from different countries in an abandoned Arab village to create a community where art and daily life were inseparable. He lived here until his death in 1984.
