Iyyon Nature Reserve

The Iyyon Nature Reserve lies on the western edge of Metula, where the Iyyon Stream (Nahal Iyyon) cuts through a narrow gorge on its way to join the Hasbani River in Lebanon. The gorge trail is one of the best short walks in the upper Galilee: it descends through a cool, shaded canyon with four waterfalls — Tanur, Cascade, Iyyon, and Shulamit — over a 4 km route.

The reserve is at its most dramatic in winter and spring when the waterfalls are full. In summer the water level drops significantly but the gorge stays cool and the walk remains pleasant. The trailhead is just outside town; the walk is easy to moderate and takes about two hours return. Watch for kingfishers along the stream.
