Hamamatsu Castle

Reconstructed castle associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu before he became shogun.

Hamamatsu Castle is a modest reconstructed keep, but its story is bigger than the building. Tokugawa Ieyasu lived here from 1571 to 1588, before his rule opened the Edo period.

The original stone base, small museum, and surrounding park make the visit worthwhile. Come for the Tokugawa connection and the sense of where the old castle town sat, not for a grand surviving fortress.
