Kakegawa Kachoen is a bird and flower park, and much better than that description may sound. Large greenhouse spaces are filled with water lilies and hanging flowers, while owls, ibises, cranes, penguins, and parrots appear in close-range displays and feeding areas.
It is especially good with children, but not only for them. The park is easy to pair with the castle because it sits south of Kakegawa Station, making the town a tidy one-day stop by rail.
