Meijo is the broad neighbourhood centred on Nagoya Castle and the surrounding Meijo Park, in Kita Ward at the north of the city centre. The dominant landmark is the castle itself, but the area also contains the Aichi Prefectural Government Office (a 1938 hybrid of Western masonry and a Japanese tiled roof), the new Aichi International Arena, the Noh Theatre, and a clutch of small shrines tucked along the castle's outer moat.
This is the most institutional part of the city — wide boulevards, official buildings, schools — which means it is also quieter than Sakae or Osu and a pleasant place to walk between sights. Subway: Shiyakusho (Meijo line) for the castle, or Sengencho (Tsurumai line) for the west side.
