Shukunegi is an old port village near Ogi, packed into narrow lanes of dark wooden houses that grew rich from Sado's position on old coastal shipping routes. It is small, but it has atmosphere: tight alleys, shipwright details, and a sense that the sea once mattered more here than the road.
Nearby Yajima-Kyojima is one of the classic places to try a taraibune, the round wooden tub boats associated with Sado's south coast. The ride is short and touristy, but it is also oddly charming and very local.
