Perry Road

Perry Road is the most atmospheric walk in Shimoda, a narrow canal-side lane with willow trees, stone walls, old merchant buildings, cafes, and small bars. It takes its name from Commodore Matthew Perry, whose Black Ships pushed Japan toward treaty ports and foreign trade.

The walk is short, but it ties the town together. Follow it from the harbour side toward Ryosenji Temple, then loop back through the older streets rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
