Shiroyama Viewpoint gives Shirakawa-go its familiar wide-angle view: farmhouses scattered across the valley floor, the Shokawa River below, and mountains pressing in on both sides. It is the place to understand why the roofs are so steep and why the village feels tucked away.
You can walk up when paths are clear, or use the shuttle when it is running. Winter snow and autumn colour are the headline seasons, but the viewpoint also helps on an ordinary green day.
