The cycling path to Higashikagura follows the right bank of the Chubetsu River upstream from Asahikawa toward open rice fields and views of the Daisetsuzan mountains. The route is paved and mostly gentle, with only the last few hundred meters adding much climb.
It is about 15 km one way and ends near a wooded hill with a pond and camping area, making it a pleasant half-day ride in clear weather.
