Kamuikotan Cycle Path

Summer cycling route following the Ishikari River and an old rail alignment toward the Kamuikotan gorge.

The route toward Kamuikotan follows the Ishikari River out of the city, using an old rail alignment and quiet riverside stretches. It is the best simple way to turn Asahikawa's geography into an activity: flat city, broad river, then hills closing in downstream.

The full ride is roughly 20 km each way, so it is for travellers with a free half-day rather than a quick spin. Ask at the tourist information centre about bike rental and current path conditions.
