Oyunuma is a hot, sulfurous pond in the hills above the onsen town. Its pale water and rising steam make a quieter counterpoint to Jigokudani, especially if you reach it on foot through the forest.
The pond is not for bathing; it is dangerously hot. Its outlet, however, feeds the natural footbath downstream, which is the best reason to keep walking.
