The Yubari Coal Mine Museum is the essential stop in town. It traces coal from geology to labour, machinery, home life, and the industry that once made Yubari a much larger city.
The best exhibits use the old Hokutan Yubari mine site itself, which gives the museum more force than a normal local history display. You leave with a clearer sense of how quickly a company town can rise, and how hard it can fall.
