Ikuno Silver Mine

Historic silver mine with walkable tunnels, Meiji-era history and eccentric miner mannequins.

Ikuno Silver Mine was worked for centuries and later came under direct imperial control during Japan's push to modernise industry. Today visitors can walk part of the mine and see displays on extraction, tools and geology.

The presentation has a strange charm. The mining mannequins have become the Ginzan Boyz, a tongue-in-cheek idol group that makes the place more memorable than a standard industrial museum.
