Kawasaki Kaiwai is Ise's old merchant quarter along the Seta River. Warehouses, wooden inns, and older shopfronts survive from the days when goods moved through town by water.
It is a small area rather than a full afternoon sight, but it is worth adding after the shrines. The lanes are quiet, and they balance the pilgrim crowds around Naiku with a more ordinary piece of old Ise.
