Terushima Shrine

Coastal shrine occupying a small rocky island reached by a red footbridge.

Terushima Shrine is built around a small rocky island just off the Ichikikushikino coast. A red pedestrian bridge links it to the mainland, so the short approach feels more ceremonial than the shrine's size would suggest.

The island is also known for its subtropical plants. It is a quick visit, but a pleasing one: sea air, bright bridge, shrine buildings, and a view back toward the town's working waterfront.
