Miyazaki-jingu

Miyazaki-jingu is the city's main Shinto shrine, set in a quiet wooded precinct north of the centre. It is dedicated to Emperor Jimmu, the legendary first emperor of Japan, which gives the place a weight beyond its size.

The shrine pairs well with the nearby Prefectural Museum of Nature and History. Together they give a useful introduction to how Miyazaki presents its ancient myths, local culture, and natural setting.
