Huis Ten Bosch is strange in the way only Japan can make strange feel orderly: a Dutch town rebuilt at theme-park scale, complete with canals, windmills, brick streets, flower gardens, and enormous winter illuminations. It is not a substitute for old Nagasaki history, but it is a polished, full-day attraction and one of Sasebo's defining sights.
