Southern Cross Center is the island's main cultural museum and viewpoint, set on the hill near the old castle site. The displays introduce Yoron history, folk culture, and the wider Amami setting, while the upper floors look across the whole low island and out toward Okinawa on a clear day.
It is a modest museum, but useful early in a visit. After seeing the island from above, Yoron's small scale makes more sense.
