Ozu Castle

Ozu Castle rises above a bend in the Hijikawa River, giving the small city a properly romantic profile. The town below has old merchant houses, riverside walks, and a slower rhythm than Matsuyama.

It is a good day trip if you like compact castle towns. Combine the castle with Garyu Sanso villa and a wander through the old streets.

A story
Ozu Castle's keep was reconstructed in wood using traditional methods, not concrete, after surviving plans and photographs were studied. That choice gives the interior a warmth many reconstructed Japanese castles lack.
