Mikawa House

Edo-period merchant house preserved as a small museum

One of the few surviving Edo-period merchant houses in central Tokushima, the Mikawa-ke residence was built in the late 18th century by an indigo wholesaler. The wooden facade, latticed shop window, and earth-floored entryway are typical of the merchant style of the period, and the rooms behind preserve the family's account books, lacquered chests, and household tools.

Admission is free; an English information sheet is available at the entrance.
