Iimoriyama

Iimoriyama is the hill tied to the Byakkotai, the teenage Aizu fighters who retreated here during the Boshin War and killed themselves after mistaking smoke near the castle for proof that it had fallen. Their graves, memorials, and small museums make the hill sombre rather than scenic.

It is worth visiting with a little patience. The story is local, tragic, and still very present in Aizuwakamatsu's identity.
