The Hakkoda Ropeway climbs into the Hakkoda Mountains south of Aomori, with views over forest, snowfields, and, in clear weather, toward Mutsu Bay. It runs year-round: hiking and autumn colour in warmer months, deep snow and skiing in winter.
This is the easiest way to feel the wild side of Aomori without planning a full mountain trip. Weather changes quickly, so check conditions before leaving town and bring warmer clothing than the city temperature suggests.
