Hanamiyama is Fukushima's great seasonal set piece: a privately owned flower-growing hillside opened to the public, with cherry, plum, forsythia, magnolia, and other spring colour layered against the surrounding satoyama landscape. In good bloom it feels less like a formal park than a working hillside that has decided to be generous.
Come early in the day during the main cherry-blossom weeks, when shuttle buses and crowd controls usually operate from the city side. Outside peak bloom the walk is quieter, but spring is the reason Hanamiyama belongs on a Fukushima itinerary.
