Mount Akita-Koma is an active volcano and the highest mountain in Akita Prefecture, with wide views toward Lake Tazawa from the upper slopes. Many hikers start from the 8th Station parking area, which turns the summit into a roughly two-hour round trip rather than a full-day climb. The mountain still feels exposed and alpine, so bring layers even when the trailhead feels mild.
