The Shark Museum sits inside Kesennuma Umi no Ichi, the port market complex beside the fish harbour. It explains why sharks matter here: Kesennuma has long handled one of Japan's largest shark catches, and shark fin, shark meat, and fishing gear are part of the city's food and work culture.
The displays also cover the 2011 tsunami and the port's recovery. It is a compact museum, but it gives the seafood stalls and harbour outside more meaning.
