Kinkasan Lighthouse

Kinkasan Lighthouse stands on the island's Pacific side, away from the shrine crowds and facing open water. The original light was completed in 1876, one of the Meiji-era lighthouses associated with British engineer Richard Henry Brunton, and the present white tower keeps the same lonely coastal role.

Come here if you want Kinkasan's rougher edge: cliffs, wind, and the feeling that the shrine island is also a small mountain dropped into the sea. It is a longer walk than the shrine approach, so do it only when the boat schedule leaves enough time.
