Ken Domon Museum of Photography

Japan's first photography museum, dedicated to Sakata-born realist photographer Ken Domon.

The Ken Domon Museum of Photography is one of Sakata's strongest reasons to stop. Domon, born in the city, was a major realist photographer, and the museum was built after he donated his archive to Sakata.

The collection is the main draw, but the building matters too. Designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, it sits low by water and frames quiet views rather than competing with the photographs.
