Sakata City Museum of Art focuses on artists connected with the region, including sculptor Takahashi Go and painter Saito Chozo. The museum sits outside the centre, with views toward Mount Chokai on clear days.
It is a quieter art stop than the Ken Domon Museum of Photography, but worthwhile if you are giving Sakata more than a quick pass through its storehouses and merchant streets.
