Somaro

Restored Edo-period restaurant where Sakata's maiko performance culture is still shown.

Somaro is a restored traditional restaurant from Sakata's old entertainment district. Its polished rooms, painted screens, and performance space connect the city to the days when trade with Kansai brought Kyoto and Osaka culture up the Sea of Japan coast.

Daily maiko performances are the practical reason to go, but even outside a performance the building gives Sakata a layer of elegance that the warehouse district alone would miss.
