Tell Says (Bronze Age Tell)

Four-thousand-year-old Dilmun trading post on Failaka Island

The main Bronze Age tell on Failaka, with occupation layers going back to around 2000 BC. At its height the settlement was a thriving trading post linked to the Dilmun civilisation, which controlled Gulf commerce from its base in modern Bahrain. Danish and French excavations have revealed temples, houses, and stamp seals typical of Dilmun culture. The mounded earthwork is unassuming from a distance, but standing on it and looking across the Gulf gives a real sense of why this anchorage was worth occupying for four millennia.
