Failaka's beaches are the island's most immediately pleasant feature — wide stretches of sand on the southern and eastern shores, with clean Gulf water and none of the crowd that packs the mainland's managed beach resorts. The water is warm for swimming from April through October but the summer heat makes beach visits uncomfortable during the day; the cooler months from October through March are ideal.
A resort development on the island's western end has added basic facilities, but most of the beaches remain undeveloped. The seabed is sandy and gradual, making it safe for wading. Birdwatchers come for the migratory species that pass through in spring and autumn — the island is a stop on the East Africa/West Asia flyway.
