Mirbat Castle is a modest coastal fort, but its setting and battle history make it the town's central stop. Restoration has changed parts of the structure, yet it still anchors the old seafront and gives useful context before walking the surrounding streets.
Mirbat Castle
A story
On 19 July 1972, Mirbat was attacked during the Dhofar Rebellion. A small force of Omani troops and British SAS soldiers held the town long enough for air support to arrive, turning the fort area into one of the best-known battle sites in modern Omani military history.
