The Hushe Valley extends south from Khaplu for about 60 km, rising through small Balti villages and apricot orchards into one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in Pakistan. The road ends at the village of Hushe, which serves as the starting point for treks to Masherbrum base camp and the Charakusa Glacier — a remote destination popular with serious mountaineers and experienced trekkers.
Even without trekking beyond the road, the drive up the valley is remarkable. The gorges tighten as you climb, the river changes colour from silty grey to glacial blue, and the peaks of the Karakoram grow more imposing with every kilometre. Jeeps can be hired in Khaplu for day trips up the valley; the road is rough but manageable in dry conditions.
