Palestine Square — known locally as al-Saha, "the Square" — was the central public space of Gaza City, lying between Jamal Abdel Nasser and Omar Mukhtar Streets at the northern edge of the Old City. It was Gaza's main civic square: the site of demonstrations and celebrations, lined with cafes, banks, and the offices of the Palestinian Bar Association.
The Italian-built Palestine Bank tower and the surrounding shops gave the square a recognisably modern Levantine character — palm trees, neon signs, traffic, and pedestrian crowds — that contrasted with the narrow lanes of the Old City a few minutes' walk south. The area was extensively damaged during the war that began in 2023.
