Kavieng Harbour

The harbour is the obvious anchor of the town, a wide and almost completely sheltered body of water dotted with small islands and reef heads. A working wharf, a small fishing fleet, and the dive boats all share the same waterfront, which catches a good sunset over the channel.

A short boat ride out from the wharf reaches several small uninhabited islets — Nusa, Edmago, Nago — with white sand beaches, coconut palms, and snorkelling straight off the shore. Local boatmen will run you out for the day for a modest fee; this is the closest thing Kavieng has to a tourist excursion.
