Ormoc Port

Ormoc's port is both a working ferry terminal and a pleasant waterfront. RORO ferries and fast craft run daily to Cebu City — a journey of between two and five hours depending on the vessel — making Ormoc a natural transit point for travellers crossing between Leyte and the Cebu island group.

At dusk, the waterfront promenade comes to life with locals taking the evening air. Food stalls set up along the esplanade selling grilled fish, balut, and fresh coconut. It is an easy, informal place to spend an hour before or after the ferry.

A story
Ormoc's port was largely destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013. The storm surge pushed ships onto the city streets, and over 100 people died in Ormoc alone. The rebuilt port and waterfront now serve as a kind of quiet monument to what the city survived.
