Quezon is a large province stretching down the southeastern coast of Luzon, named after Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon. Its capital, Lucena City, sits at the head of the Tayabas Bay, but most travellers pass through on the way to the beaches and surf breaks further south.
The province runs from the coconut groves and fishing towns around Tayabas Bay down to the Pacific-facing coast, where the waves attract surfers to Real and Infanta. Inland, the Sierra Madre mountains form the eastern boundary, with Mount Banahaw — a sacred peak for Filipino spiritual groups — rising near the border with Laguna.
Getting around the province means jeepneys for short hops between towns, buses for the longer hauls, and tricycles within town centres. Lucena has bus connections to Manila and the rest of southern Luzon.
