Christ the King Cathedral

The main Catholic cathedral of Tagum City and seat of the Diocese of Tagum. The church itself is a large modern building in the Filipino ecclesiastical style — practical rather than ornate, but impressive for its scale. The surrounding grounds are kept carefully.

The cathedral's claim to fame is the giant wooden rosary that decorates its exterior — a devotional construction that has attracted visitors and pilgrims from across Mindanao. The Diocese of Tagum covers a significant portion of Davao del Norte province, and the cathedral is the spiritual centre of the region.

A story
The rosary here is made entirely from wood — large wooden beads the size of footballs strung together on a heavy chain and hung on the cathedral exterior. It was declared the world's largest rosary, though the exact record has been contested at various times. The piece was built as a devotional object and remains an active site of prayer, not a tourist novelty.
